Hemp vs Marijuana

A lot of people are confused about the difference between hemp and marijuana. This is probably due to all of logos on clothes, signs, and paraphernalia that have the cannabis leaf and the word “hemp” under it. This kind of advertising is a little misleading and has caused a lot of confusion. These logos are purposely misleading. The culture of hemp is not the same as the high culture that’s advertised on logos and clothing.

When you see hemp clothing or posters, it should be about the medicinal benefits, were the company being forthright and accurate. We have yet to see this in the small little t-shirt shops that we all go to on our vacations. It’s usually the opposite. Well, we’re tired of the confusion because it’s causing people to turn their nose up at hemp instead of investigating it as a legitimate dietary supplement.

We’re going to┬áput this to bed, once and for all so people can know the difference between these two types of cannabis.

What is Marijuana?

Marijuana is what all the propaganda is about. For decades, the war on drugs has been raging and the main focus has been on marijuana. Your guess as to why the government hates marijuana so much is just as good as ours. Nobody really knows exactly why the medicinal plant is regarded as such a bad thing, except the people who have implemented the laws. It could be about money, private prisons, for-profit medicine, etc or it could be a genuine concern for our health based on fear and misinformation. We don’t know so do your research and take your best guess.

Marijuana is a type of cannabis that has a psychoactive cannabinoid known as THC or tetrahydrocannabinol. THC is what the propaganda has identified as the main culprit in marijuana. It’s what gives you the buzz and changes your psychological state. Research on the benefits of THC is very interesting and will make you want to get some for somebody you care about who may be suffering. Unfortunately, it may not be legal where you live. But don’t worry, we have hemp to thank for picking up the slack of our lawmakers.

What is Hemp?

Hemp is a type of cannabis sativa plant that only contains trace amounts of THC. There is not enough THC in hemp to get you high. The amount of THC in industrial hemp fluctuates between 0.05%-1% (NAIHC). Marijuana contains up to 20% THC. These two plants are closely related but distinctly different.

The main cannabinoid in hemp is called CBD or cannabidiol. CBD does not have any psychoactive properties, but it does come with a host of benefits. Marijuana is typically low in CBD and high in THC. CBD actually has been shown to combat the psychoactive effects of THC, which is why stoners like to smoke marijuana strains that are low in CBD. Medical marijuana patients use both, marijuana strains that are low in CBD and high in CBD. Different strains are good for different conditions.

The most important thing to take from this article is that hemp does not have psychoactive effects but it does have therapeutic effects. When you see a logo that looks like it appeals to stoners, but it says hemp, just shake your head in disgust and know that they’re turning people off to a plant that could be beneficial for them or some one they know.
